Insurance People September 2010 - John Mullin Ordained

15/09/10

John Mullin ordained a Permanant Deacon in the Roman Catholic Church

Is this a first in the insurance industry?

Saturday 10 July saw Composite Legal Expenses’ Managing Director, John Mullin, ordained as a Permanent Deacon of the Roman Catholic Church.

As a Permanent Deacon John will be carrying out sermons, baptisms, marriages and funerals and will be involved with pastoral care of the sick. Assisting Bishops and Priests at liturgical celebrations and being involved in charity and administrative activities are amongst the many other duties.

Knowing that this has involved several years of study, John heads off my question as to possible retirement from the insurance industry:
“Before you ask the question regarding my Composite role, I’ve no retirement date yet fixed and, indeed, no exit strategy planned!
Having such a strong team at Composite has enabled me to take time out to study for my new vocation over the last three years andwill enable me to combine my business responsibilities with my new role.”

The Ordination Mass took place at St Francis Church, Cardiff and was carried out by The Rt. Revd. Declan Lang, Bishop of Clifton.  John was supported at the ceremony by family and friends and, of course, the Composite Legal Expenses Team.

John Mullin: “Being a Permanent Deacon is all about service to the church and the community. In my thirties and forties I was fortunate to be of service to the community as an elected member of a London Borough and always intended to put something back into society as I approached retirement and, indeed, during it.”
