By integrating legal expenses insurance with competent HR advice into a managed solution

From experience of operating a large book of commercial legal expenses insurance,
Composite Legal Expenses, together with Qdos Consulting, established there’s a huge
opportunity for providing help in an SME’s HR processes, let alone the more technical areas
of health & safety and employment legislation and regulation and any follow-through should
an issue go to law.
Composite’s research showed a general negativity amongst many brokers in selling
commercial legal expenses due to a perception that claims are avoided wherever possible
inevitably souring relations with their client. Think about it! With an SME probably having no
in-house HR expert, if an HR issue goes pear-shaped, often the client’s first port of call is to
seek advice from a friend or contact. This resulting, time and time again, in activities that
void the cover with any legal expenses insurer because the insurer’s ‘prospect of success’
has been prejudiced - more or less a standard exclusion market wide.
Now, integrate legal expenses insurance with competent HR advice into a managed solution
and this problem is resolved. Work4ce-online was created.
By taking this ‘objection’ seriously, Composite combined their skills with the talent and
expertise of Qdos Consulting (well known for its expertise in HR, tax and accounting
consultancy). SME clients now have a solution - a comprehensive HR service and legal
expenses insurance deliberately tailored to employment issues, all at a very affordable
price.
The product has been successfully piloted with SMEs over the last few months. As the
obvious source for SMEs is the broker channel, Composite and Qdos are launching Work4ce-online to the broking market.
By promoting Work4ce-online to their SME client base:
brokers can earn valuable extra commission from an untapped source by helping their clients with a product that provides a hands-on service, tools and statutory documentation and advice needed to implement a good human resource practice.
SME clients have on-line access to the whole range of compliant HR procedures and documentation and receive proactive regular advice on existing and forthcoming legislation, plus access to a 24/7 employment advice help-line.
John Mullin, Composite’s MD:
“Legal expenses is a necessity for all businesses these days but no broker needs a client casting blame their way if cover is voided. By the client using our HR service there is no possibility of our ‘prospect of success’ being undermined as the legal expenses provider in the Work4ce on-line contract. We feel that this is the answer to the brokers’ dilemma."
Julian Stringer, Corporate Business Manager, Qdos Consulting, adds:
“The increasing burden of employment and health & safety legislation and the proliferation of litigation relating to employed staff that has resulted from the opportunistic ‘no win no fee’ legal profession‘ gives many SMEs a huge headache.
Work4ce-online provides the information and processes they need to have a compliant workforce approach and, very importantly, the right advice if a situation starts to go sour. It frees up valuable time to allow SMEs to get on with what they’re good at - running their own businesses.”
